Summer Active Accommodation - Cabins, Yurts and Tree Houses in Sweden, Finland and Norway
A Nordic log cabin is an iconic image - surrounded by forest, perhaps perched on a lake shore, it conjures associations of tranquility and quiet beauty.
Nature Travels offers a number of options for log cabin holidays, ideal for couples seeking a romantic break, active families with an interest in outdoor activities in the surrounding countryside or groups of friends looking to spend time together.

But a log cabin is not your only choice for a base for your summer holiday! For those with an interest in bushcraft living, those who love the special feeling of sleeping under canvas, or even those who would like to spend the night up a tree, we offer a range of options for yurts, tree houses and even a floating cabin!
Whether you are looking for a trip focused on outdoor activities or a tranquil and romantic break, our summer active accommodation experiences have a great deal to offer. Many have lakeside locations and accommodate from two to ten persons depending on the options chosen - perfect for families or groups of friends as well as couples.
Our Log Cabin Escape in Värmland experience has a total of three cabins, spaced widely apart, just 75m from the lakeside. Each cabin can accommodate up to 6 persons (4+2) and so is ideal for families with children or small groups of friends. For two families travellig together, it is a popular choice to rent two adjacent cabins. Each cabin has a large porch area ideally suited for sociable evenings around the barbecue with friends or family.

The forests and lakes around the log cabins are part of the Mangen-Treens Fishing Preservation Area, and the waters are renowned for their excellent pike fishing. Included in the price of these traditional Swedish log cabins is a boat, allowing you the freedom to explore three local lakes, whether you are planning to head out on a fishing trip or just off to discover a private picnic spot with your family.
As well as fishing, the lakes are ideal for exploring by canoe, which can be rented on site. Bikes can also be hired, and there are endless tracks for riding in the surrounding forests.
Located just few hundred metres away from the cabins on the Log Cabin Escape in a secluded lakeside setting is our Lakeside Cabin Retreat in Värmland, located close to the water's edge. Cabin Åtta sleeps up to 4 with additional sleeping accommodation for 2 more persons in a small summer cabin just a few metres away, while Cabin Fyra also sleeps up to 4 persons.
Lakeside Cabin Retreat offers the same range of activities and equipment hire possibilities as for the Log Cabin Escape in Värmland, and as with the Log Cabin Escape, the cabin comes with its own boat. Lakeside Cabin Retreat is the ideal choice for a romantic cabin break or as a base for fishing, hiking and mountain biking.
Alternatives to the Log Cabin Escape and Lakeside Cabin Retreat options in Sweden would be our choice of cabins in the Päijänne Tavastia area of Finland, just two hours from Helsinki. Log Cabin Getaway in Päijänne Tavastia offers a choice of two beautiful, handcrafted log cabins, each with its own sauna and sleeping 2-8 persons. As with the Värmland cabins in Sweden, activities include hiking, mountain biking, rowing, canoeing and fishing.
For romantic getaways for couples or as an option for small families, there is a further choice in the same area, Romantic Cabin with Hot Tub in Päijänne Tavastia, which, as the name suggests, not only has its own sauna but also its own outdoor hot tub on a private terrace!
For the adventurous who love to be outdoors, there's probably no better choice than Waterside Cabin in the Lapland Mountains, located in a small village in a remote and little-visited region of western Lapland bordering Europe's largest protected area, the Vindelfjällen Nature Reserve.
While it may take a little longer to get here than to some of our other log cabin holidays, Petter's cabin is newly-built, fresh and comfortable with its own sauna and easy access to the wilderness around. Ideal especially for hiking and fishing, a stay at the cabin also provides an authentic insight into life in a remote Swedish village - and you can pop down the road to visit your host's husky kennels if you wish, too!
A very special option suitable for couples, families or groups of friends and offering the chance to stay in unique accommodation is Log Cabins at the Husky Lodge, located in the far north of Norway. These beautifully-crafted cabins are an experience in themselves, but the surrounding area also offers wonderful opportunities for hiking, canoeing/packrafting and fishing, as well as summer husky-related activities such helping with the training, socialising the puppies and perhaps visiting the husky summer camp!

If you are looking for a real "back to nature" experience and enjoy the simplicity of a simple but comfortable cabin with no electricity, cooking over open fire and taking a dip in the lake in the morning, our Back to Basics in Cosy Cabins is the ideal choice.
Choose from one of three grass-roofed forest cabins sleeping up to 4 persons, two tree houses, (ideal for couples who would like to enjoy a unique romantic getaway), or even a floating cabin on the lake! In the evening, relax in the wood-fired sauna right by the water's edge before diving into the lake to cool off!
Alternatively, Forest Retreat in Skåne offers similar possibilities, but with accommodation in private 2-4 person yurts instead of cabins and just one hour from Copenhagen, making it ideal for a short break as a couple, family or group of friends.
Whether you are looking for romance or adventure (or both!), a log cabin, yurt or tree house holiday will take you far away from the hustle and bustle of modern life to the space and tranquility of the Nordic forests.
