Led by very experienced guide, the tour is ideal for solo travellers or guests travelling as two or more persons, and tours are guaranteed to run from the first booking.

You'll be carrying everything with you for your hiking tour in this remote region. There will be long, tiring days and for much of the time you will be hiking away from marked trails.

In return for your efforts, you will be rewarded with dramatic views of endless horizons, mountains, lakes and waterfalls and the opportunity to experience something very special - the magic and silence of the wilderness. While you may meet some other hikers as your route briefly crosses the popular King's Trail, for much of the tour you're likely to have the remote beauty of Swedish Lapland entirely to yourselves.

Camp wild beneath the Midnight Sun in June or the Northern Lights in September

Scheduled tours take place either in June or September. June is the time of the Midnight Sun, when the sun does not set at all and it is daylight 24 hours a day - an incredible experience!

Alternatively, choose to hike in the beautiful autumn period, when the fjälls are ablaze with red and gold. While many associate the Northern Lights with winter, autumn is an excellent time for viewing the Aurora. From late August onwards, the skies become dark enough for displays to be seen, and you'll be far, far away from any light pollution during your tour.

Provided of course that there is Aurora activity, the skies and clear and you're not fast asleep after an exhausting day's hiking, lying in your sleeping bag watching a display illuminate the wild skies above you may be one of your most magical memories from the hike.

Food during the tour will be high-quality, dehydrated expedition meals. These are included for breakfast, lunch and dinner during the hike. You should also bring your own snacks for between-meal energy when hiking.

Itinerary »

The itinerary below is a guideline only. The route taken and daily distances for this experience is flexible and subject to change depending on weather conditions, terrain, water levels and other factors.

The terrain and nature of hiking in the area will make the hike significantly more challenging than the daily distances alone suggest.

Day 1: Arrival and Hiking from Abisko towards Lapporten

Arrive with the morning night train from Stockholm (usually at 11.08). Alternatively, you may wish to arrive the day before to overnight in Kiruna independently (then taking the morning train from Kiruna to Abisko arriving 11.08) or overnight in Abisko.

You will meet your guide to discuss the tour ahead and distribute the expedition equipment before beginning your hike into the wilderness.

From Abisko, you head south towards the iconic view of "Lapporten", the gateway to the wilderness. At a suitable spot you will pitch camp for your first night.

Hiking distance: approx. 10-11km; Ascent: approx 550m.

Day 2: Continuing south towards Rautasjaure

Hike south towards Rautasjaure, before turning west to follow the valley. The terrain becomes more remote and pathless as you progress.

Hiking distance: approx. 15-16km; Ascent: approx. 350m.

Day 3: Westwards through Alisvággi

You'll be hiking in unmarked terrain today through the Alis valley with a long and challenging day of hiking. There is an old marked trail here, but it has become partly overgrown.

Day 4: Crossing the King's Trail and towards Unna Allakas

For a short time, today hike will lead you along the famous King's Trail ("Kungsleden") towards Alesjaure, but you soon turn away from this popular train again to climb towards Unna Allakas. The intention is to camp in the region of Snarapoaivi.

Hiking distance: approx. 18km; Ascent: approx. 800m.

Day 5: Across High fjälls towards Hoiganvággi

Another very challenging day as you hike across the high fjälls in rocky and spectacular terrain. This will probably be one of the most demanding days of the hike.

Continuing through remote mountain terrain, today's hike brings you to the southern shore of Lake Gorsajá to camp for your last night on its southern shore.

Day 7: Hiking Back to Abisko and Departure

The end of your circular tour beings you down along the slopes of Njunes to reach the railway station at Abisko Turistation, where your tour ends.
