Unleash your inner dogsled diva on this very special "ladies only" dog sledding tour in the Trondelag region of central Norway, where the only males will be in your dog team! Just an hour from Trondheim, Dog Sledding for Divas combines the adventure and excitement of mushing your own dogsled team with the special atmosphere of an all-female tour.

The 3-day husky tour includes comfortable accommodation in shared chalet near the husky kennels with two dogsledding day tours in the surrounding area, while the longer 5-day option features chalet accommodation plus a point-to-point tour component with an overnight in simple mountain cabin out in the wilderness.

You will be given full guidance in how to harness your team and handle the sled before heading off into the beautiful winter landscape, stopping for lunch over open fire along the way.

Dog Sledding for Divas is an ideal way to discover the joy of dog sledding and working with your own husky team in an all-female setting, whether you choose to participate as a solo female traveller or with friends.

3-Day Tour - Itinerary

NB: This experience is timed to connect with direct flights London-Trondheim with Norwegian. Participants must fly to Trondheim the day before the tour begins to overnight there. You are of course welcome to arrive earlier and spend additional night(s) in Trondheim before your tour begins.

During sledding days, you will be sledding for around 3-5 hours per day including lunch, typical distance 20-35km.

Day 1:

Morning train from Trondheim Vaernes airport (or Trondheim city if staying additional nights locally before your tour) arriving Kopperå 09.06. You will be met from the train for transfer to the kennels (3km).

Here you will receive your warm clothing and instruction in how to handle your sled and harness your team, before heading off for a dogsled tour in the surrounding area. You make a stop for lunch by the fire before returning to the kennels.

After your tour, you will be transferred to your accommodation for the night at comfortable chalet, normally approx. 13km from the kennels, where you have two-course dinner and overnight.

Day 2:

After breakfast, you will be collected around 09.30 for short drive back to the kennels. Today you have a tour with around 3-5 hours sledding, with lunch by the fire. You return to the kennels to unharness and say farewell to the dogs before transfer to chalet accommodation for three-course dinner and final overnight.

Day 3:

Breakfast and taxi transfer to Meråker (approx. 13km) for train departing 10.02 to Trondheim or Trondheim airport. Taxi cost is payable locally and shared between participants departing that day.

5-Day Tour - Itinerary

NB: This experience is timed to connect with direct flights London-Trondheim with Norwegian. Participants must fly to Trondheim the day before the tour begins to overnight there. You are of course welcome to arrive earlier and spend additional night(s) in Trondheim before your tour begins.

During sledding days, you will be sledding for around 3-5 hours including lunch, typical distance 20-35km.

Day 1:

Morning train from Trondheim Vaernes airport (or Trondheim city if staying additional nights locally before your tour) arriving Kopperå 09.06. You will be met from the train for transfer to the kennels (3km).

You receive your warm clothing and meet the huskies, before instruction in handling the sled and setting out for a half-day dogsled tour (around 10-15km) with your team as an introduction to the days ahead. Lunch by the fire after the tour/

You will then be transferred to your chalet accommodation for the night for two-course dinner.

Day 2:

After breakfast, you will be collected around 09.30 for short drive back to the kennels. You will be given a note with the names of the dogs in your team and begin to get to know their individual characters, harnessing them for a day's dogsled tour in the surrounding area, driving your own team of 4-6 huskie. You will make a stop for lunch in a "lavvu" (traditional tipi) or outside around the fire.

When you return to the kennels in the afternoon, you will unharness your team before transfer to your accommodation where a 3-course dinner is served in the evening.

Day 3:

After breakfast, you are transferred to the kennels where you begin an overnight dogsled tour into the mountains, taking you over the mountain plateau for a day's sledding of approx. 20-35km. You stop along the way for lunch and have good chances to see reindeer in the area. Your destination is a simple mountain cabin, where you will take care of your dogs before readying the cabin for the night. Everyone assists with tasks such as feeding and caring for your team, lighting a fire in the cabin and fetching water. You then make dinner together and relax for the evening in the silence of the winter landscape.

Day 4:

After feeding the dogs and organising the cabin, you will sled back towards the kennels with lunch along the way. Once back, you unharness your team and take care of the equipment before transfer back to the mountain lodge, where you have time for a short walk or just to relax and enjoy a shower before your farewell three-course dinner together.

Day 5:

Breakfast and taxi transfer to Meråker (approx. 13km) for train departing 10.02 to Trondheim or Trondheim airport. Taxi cost is payable locally and shared between participants departing that day.

Additional tour dates can be added on request from min. 2 persons between January and April.

Prices 2017

Prices are in British Pounds. If you wish, you are also welcome to make your payment by in Euros. If this would be of interest, please let us know and we will be happy to provide prices.

  • 3-day tour: £746/person
  • 5-day tour: £1383/person

Prices are based on shared 2-person rooms for nights in chalet accommodation. Single supplement £35/person. For 5-day tour, sleeping accommodsation in wilderness cabin Day 3 is always shared.

Minimum age for scheduled tours is normally 15 years. Younger children can be accommodated on tours on other dates by arrangement and child prices are available. Please contact us to discuss your requirements.

Included

Accommodation:

  • 3-day tour: Two nights' accommodation in comfortable modern chalet with 2-person rooms (accommodation used may vary depending on availability) with kitchen/living room area 12km from the kennels. Bedding and towels are included. Bathroom facilities shared per 4 persons.
  • 5-day tour: Three nights' accommodation as for 3-day tour. Bedding and towels are included. One night in mountain cabin with simple standard, sleeping accommodation in 2-4 person rooms, no running water or electricity. Bedding and towels are included.

Meals:

All meals from lunch on arrival day to breakfast on departure day (breakfast, lunch, dinner + coffee/snacks, etc). Please let us know if you have any special dietary requirements.

Equipment and Clothing:

  • Dog sledding equipment including sled dog team of 4-6 dogs.
  • Warm winter outer clothing: thermal snowmobile overalls*, warm winter boots*, hat and outer gloves. Goggles are also available to borrow on request (please advise in advance).
  • Warm winter sleeping bag. Small pillow is also provided at the wilderness cabin.

Optional Extras

  • Transfer between Trondheim Vaernes airport and the kennels (approx. 1 hour): £29/person/one-way.
  • An outside wood-fired hot-tub is available to book locally at the lodge, cost 1600 NOK/group (approx. £140). If of interest, please discuss with other members of the group on arrival and make payment locally to your host.

Required

Health requirements/experience:

Good level of health and fitness. Participants should enjoy outdoor life and be used to being outdoors for extended periods. Minimum age 15 for scheduled tours. Younger participants possible for tours on other dates by request.

Equipment/clothes needed:

A detailed recommended packing list will be sent with your booking confirmation.

NB: We advise you not to buy equipment or clothes for your trip or to incur other non-refundable expenses such as flights until you have received confirmation of your booking from us in writing. Note of course that the most appropriate clothing to use as well as the level of challenge experienced during any outdoor activity may vary significantly depending on factors such as the time of year and the particular weather/temperature conditions during your trip.

Minimum number:

Min. total of 2 persons required for tours to be confirmed to run. You are of course welcome to book as a solo traveller.

By Air:

Fly to Trondheim Vaernes airport for train to Kopperå (about 1 hour), from where transfer is included. On departure, taxi to Meråer (approx. 13km, payable locally) for train to Trondheim.
