Comments on Ice Skating on Natural Ice:

"We all had a great time in Sweden, an experience that we will always have fond memories of. What follows is our summary of the experience:

Our experience was a day skating on a lake near Trosa. There were four of us in our group - two adults and two children aged 11 and 9. We all skate regularly in the UK at an indoor ice rink so this was a help. The guide & instructor who was called Erik made contact with us the day we arrived and confirmed our meeting point the next day. He turned up at the right place, at the right time, with all the equipment we needed (equipment hire cost extra) and the skates were in all the right sizes too, just as ordered. We were impressed with the quality of the equipment, it was all either new or in very good, clean condition.

As the ice conditions vary due to the weather we had to travel half an hour in the car to the lake which was chosen as being most suitable to learn on. It turned out this was perfect for us. Circuits had already been cleared free of snow on the lake and the longest circuit was 1.7km so it was quite a big lake. Erik taught us the basic skills and then assisted us as required for the rest of the day, helping us up after falls if necessary! The day was very much tailored to get the best fit between what our aspirations were and what the guide thought we were capable of. Safety was given top priority by Erik the whole day. The fact that we were supplied with knee pads was a big advantage with falling and no-one was hurt." Charles
