Nature Travels News | New Tours for 2008 | New Dates for 2008
Up in the birch forests and across the high plains of the Swedish mountains, winter is still very much in evidence. With thick snow carpeting the landscape and the lengthening days bringing warmer temperatures and longer hours of sunshine, March and April is a perfect time for winter activities in the hills, from crossing the wilderness on a dog sledding expedition to relaxed cross-country at your own pace.
If your thoughts are already turning to the spring and summer ahead, then we have some wonderful suggestions for making the most of the long hours of daylight and wide open spaces that make Sweden such a marvellous destination for a summer outdoor holiday.
Sweden offers an enormous range of possibilities for outdoor activities throughout the year, whether you are a couple seeking time for yourselves in the wilderness, a family with young children looking for a quiet forest retreat, or a team of young people after challenge and adventure - so get exploring!
Our dogsled tours in the mountains of Jämtland in western Sweden have proven enormously popular again this year, with all but one tour in February and March fully booked. At the time of writing, we have the following spaces still available for dogsled tours in April:
Go Camping by Dogsled 12-18 April, 2 spaces; Premium Dog Sledding Expedition 19-25 April, 6 spaces; Ice Fishing and Dog Sledding 26 April-02 May, 3 spaces. Prices start at £840 for a 7-day experience. For details please see www.naturetravels.co.uk/category-dog-sledding.htm or contact us for more information.
A musher's diary, Nature Travels experiences in the news, and the growth of the Wild Sweden blog
One of the great things about working for Nature Travels is the regular opportunities we have to visit our partners in Sweden and try out the experiences we sell. This February, Bob travelled to Jämtland to take part in our Dogsled Adventure in Jämtland and Snowshoeing in Wolverine Country experiences, mastering the art of mushing against the majestic backdrop of the Vålådalen mountains before spending 4 days camping under the stars and tracking the diverse wildlife of this spectacular region. You can read the first instalment of his adventures on our blog at www.wildsweden.co.uk.
Since we last wrote in January, Nature Travels experiences have been featured in The Guardian newspaper as well as Easy Living and Sainsbury's magazines. Look out for features on our popular timber rafting experience in The Independent and The Times shortly. For a full list of Nature Travels in the news in recent times, see here.
The Wild Sweden blog has been running for about 18 months now, and in this time we have amassed an enormous collection of articles on subjects ranging from what to expect on a dog sledding expedition to how to make a Swedish cream bun. We have now added a new "Search" facility to make it easier to find the information you need - why not visit www.wildsweden.co.uk and try out a Sweden- or ecotourism-related search? You may be surprised what you find!
Sweden's lakes, rivers, and coastal waters make for some of the best canoeing and kayaking in the world, and following the enormous popularity of our existing range of canoeing and sea kayaking experiences, we now have three ways to enjoy glorious sea kayaking in the western archipelago, just a short distance from the cultural centre of Gothenburg. For those more comfortable on dry land, we also have an exciting new autumn horse riding expedition in the wild expanses of the Lapland mountains.

In the meantime, don't forget that many of our winter experiences can be booked on custom dates by arrangement for small groups, so if you would like a private tour, contact us now to reserve your chosen dates before scheduled dates are finalised!
Watch out for the wind! We have had some wild weather down at the Nature Travels office on the south coast, and have been hanging on to our hats for dear life!
Don't forget that hedgehogs will be coming out of hibernation and many wild animals will need extra food as we move towards spring, and mind out for wandering badgers on the road as the boars begin to roam the countryside!
Best regards
The Nature Travels Team
