Holidays in Sweden - 450,000 square kilometres of possibilities! (part 2)

Read part 1...>

What time of year would you like to take your holiday in Sweden? This is of course an important question when choosing the right experience! Sweden offers an enormous range of possibilities for active holidays at any time of year, and contrary to popular belief is by no means a land of eternal cold and snow. We regularly receive enquiries from clients wishing to take a dog sledding holiday in Sweden in July and August - but this is a season more suited to bathing shorts than woolly hats! If you are interested in a winter holiday in Sweden and are looking for snow, the best time for a snowy holiday will be between December and the end of April. For example, the season for our popular husky holidays in Sweden runs from just before Christmas until the first week in May. However, snow cover is of course very dependent on both altitude and how far north in Sweden you would like to go. By May the southern half of the country and the lowlands further north will be in the full bloom of spring, while up in the mountains the winter maintains its grip on the land. This "spring winter" season can be a lovely time for a winter holiday in Sweden, combining thick snow cover with spring temperatures and longer days.

The arrival of spring opens up a whole new world of possibilities for those seeking an active holiday. The winter ice has melted, allowing the lakes, rivers and archipelago waters to run free once again and opening up the possibilities for marvellous canoeing and kayaking trips on the Swedish lakes and rivers and through the thousands of islands of the east and west coast archipelagos. The early part of the season can be a wonderful time for a canoeing or kayaking holiday in Sweden - the mornings are crisp and bracing, the forests alive with the promise of the coming summer, and you will very likely be paddling in glorious solitude! Spring is also a wonderful time for one of our multi-activity holidays, which combine comfortable accommodation with a wide range of activity possibilities. Choose what you want to do, when and for how long you want to do it - or just take some time out to relax and enjoy the scenery and spend time with friends and loved ones.

Summer is a wonderful time to take a holiday in Sweden. The days are long (during certain periods literally endless!) and warm, and the evening light gives the landscape a fairytale quality. By June, summer will be in full swing in most parts of the country, and there are more options than ever for active and adventure holidays. For some of the canoe tours, as well as for our popular timber rafting experiences, June is the beginning of the season. If you are looking for family-friendly holidays in Sweden, summer is a marvellous time to visit - why not take the children for a traditional family summer break on a Swedish farm, or hire a lakeside log cabin in the forests of western Sweden?

By the end of August, summer in many parts of Sweden is giving way to the rich colours and crisper days of autumn. Autumn can be an ideal season to visit Sweden for late-season canoeing and kayaking, hiking or a wildlife safari - a quiet and peaceful time of year when the forests are ablaze with colour. Temperatures are still pleasant and ideal for active holidays - camping, canoeing, hiking, or looking for mushrooms in the deep woods!
