Dog Sledding in Lapland
There is no winter activity to compare with dog sledding. Travelling through a white winter wilderness in command of your own dogsled team is a unique experience, a memory that will never fade.
Our dog sledding tours for groups take place in Lapland, in the far north of Sweden deep inside the Arctic Circle and an excellent location for seeing the spectacular Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights. Depending on your preference and the time of year you wish you travel, it is possible to choose between two standard 8-day itineraries, Northern Lights Dog Sledding in Lapland, normally offered between mid-December and early March, and Husky Mountain Expedition in Lapland, normally available from early March until mid-April.
Dog sledding in Lapland is ideal for private groups of adults or winter adventurous training for Armed Forces. The head guide for these dogsled tours is himself ex-military personnel, with extensive experience in working with military groups for adventurous training in both winter and summer. Standard itineraries can also be adapted to offer varying levels of challenge or include additional activities according to the needs and wishes of your group.
Up to 10 persons can be accommodated on a single dogsled tour. Each participant will drive their own dogsled with 4-5 Siberian Huskies. For larger groups, you may choose to organise separate tours or alternatively multi-activity experiences combining dog sledding with other winter training activities can be arranged. In this case, up to 20 persons can be accommodated at a time, splitting into two groups to participate in a separate programme of activities before changing over.
From your base at a comfortable wilderness camp, the expeditions take you deep into the Lapland wilderness, with overnight accommodation in mountain cabins and/or winter camping along the way.
Dog sledding is not only a hugely rewarding and enjoyable outdoor experience, but is also an excellent activity for building self-confidence and developing teamwork skills. During your dogsled tour, each participant will assist in caring for the dogs, harnessing their team each morning and digging snow shelters to protect them from the wind each night. The welfare of your dog team is of paramount importance, and you will develop a close relationship with both the dogs and your fellow mushers as you work and travel together in the remote wilderness.
Dog sledding is an ideal way to experience the Arctic winter, whether you are seeking a challenging team-building and adventurous training activity or a unique adventure with friends.
