Self-guided Canoe Tours
Sweden offers some of the best canoeing waters in the world. Its thousands of lakes and endless, clear rivers provide a marvellous setting for self-guided canoeing in rural or wilderness landscapes.
Nature Travels offers a wide range of canoe tours ideal for groups with durations from 4 to 14 days. The experiences are easily adaptable to be as accessible or challenging as you wish, from the welcoming rural landscape of Canoe on Klarälven to the wilderness adventure of Canoe in Bergslagen. For those seeking additional challenge, the longer wilderness routes can be extended almost indefinitely by planning detours and diversions into side river systems and lakes.
All tours include wild camping all along the route and fishing licences can be purchased for all or part of the route, depending on the tour.
Which canoe tour is most suitable for your group will depend on your preferred duration and whether you are looking for a rural or wilderness canoeing experience. The season for canoeing normally runs either May-September for Canoe on Rottnan or June-August for the other canoe tours listed below. However, for larger groups start dates outside the standard season may be possible by arrangement. For groups, we are also able to arrange coach transfer to/from airports and a selection of hotel accommodation in the area before or after your canoe tour. Canoe on Klarälven - 4 or 7 days, rural landscape
The Klarälven is a wide, meandering river running through an attractive cultural landscape of forest, small villages and farms, and is one of the best places in Sweden to see beaver. Distance 50-100km.

Canoe on Svartälven - 7 or 14 days, wilderness landscape
The Svartälven is one of Sweden's best canoeing rivers. This tour is predominantly a river route with lakes along the way. Land portages required (a canoe trolley is included as part of the standard equipment to assist with land transports). Distance 70km plus a number of optional extensions.

Canoe in Bergslagen - 7 or 14 days, wilderness landscape
Our most remote and challenging experience, Canoe in Bergslagen runs through a network of lakes connected by rivers. A number of land portages are required for this route. Total distance 85-105km with a number of possibilities for extensions.

Combining Svartälven plus Bergslagen routes - 7 or 14 days, wilderness landscape
Recommended for more experienced outdoor enthusiasts only, it is also possible to combine the Svartälven and Bergslagen routes outlined above into one tour, offering around 200km or more of wilderness canoeing. This tour is ideal for, for example, University Armed Forces groups seeking a demanding wilderness canoe experience.
