Customer reviews of Cross Country Skiing in Eastern Finland:

"Loved the whole trip - both guesthouses were fantastic, the local food was excellent, the days out skiing were excellent - loved the fact that the hosts created their own ski tracks. Overall it was a brilliant trip." Anna, February 2024

"Combination of good food, great people and good accommodation." Niels, February 2023

"The trip to Eastern Finland was excellent in every way (though the skiing was, to say the least, challenging as the tracks were very icy). Minna was a brilliant leader and host. Nothing was too much trouble for her. I felt truly immersed in Karelian culture. The food and accommodation were great at all three places we stayed. I have fond memories of skiing a long way on Finland's fifth largest lake in the sunshine, past two big boats moored in the ice, to enjoy a feast of Karelian pies. The itinerary was varied and always interesting. We tried snowshoeing, and plunging in the ice hole in the lake at the smoke sauna." Ros, March 2022.

"The best parts were the group of people, the places we stayed and the people we met, as well as the wilderness skiing." Jane, March 2022

"It was a wonderful trip. Liked that there was optional extra skiing on most days so that days could be shorter for those that wanted to relax and longer for those who wanted more exertion. Great guides. The smoke sauna, including walk across the lake, ice hole and fish cooking, was a very magical experience." Kiri, February 2022

"The whole holiday was fantastic - our hosts and guide were all superb - amazing food, beautiful scenery and fun saunas." Sarah, February 2020

"I just wanted to say how wonderful a holiday I had. I was really impressed by the whole set up and how the team went out of their way to make everyone feel comfortable. Our guide was quite happy to give me options for routes or let me make up my own. Thanks again, I had a really lovely week." Rosemary, February 2020

"[The best parts were] the welcome, food and general hospitality and patience of the guides." Sue, March 2019

"All the guesthouses were lovely, welcoming and a good level of comfort. Smoke sauna and the ice hole were a highlight too. Food was amazing. Owners/hosts were all excellent and went above and beyond to make us welcome. Minna was an excellent host/guide, very informative about Finnish culture, very generous with her time." Karen, March 2019

"I'd highly recommend the tour we did to friends. I thought the guides were excellent. How the food was served with local dishes that you could keep going back to for more was also very welcome. Skiing through forests with guides that were very knowledgeable about the area. I also enjoyed going off for a second lap of the 15km day 6 loop. " Clare and Mark, March 2019

"Cultural experience and hospitality provided by the hosts were the best parts." Name not supplied, March 2019.

"It was a very good week it's hard to single out one thing. I enjoyed everything we did and I thought the food was excellent. I don't think you could make it much better. I had never been to Finland and you were offering the kind of holiday I wanted in a new and interesting place. I also thought it was good value for money." Andrew, February 2019

"Skiing was great, instructors were great and lovely people throughout. A lot of effort was made by everyone, which we were very grateful for. Plenty of food to keep us going, the blazed salmon was delicious." Cara, February 2019

"Everything was great, the guides were so friendly and great company, the food was amazing, the skiing was varied and beautiful - we can't choose just one aspect [that was the highlight]." Emma, February 2018

"[I really enjoyed] skiing through pine forests, fields and across lakes. The patience and friendliness of the guide and the quality of the meals." David, March 2017

"It was a great experience." Mark, February 2017

"[The highlight was] the really nice people we met that were our guides and hosts." Kenneth, February 2017

"Despite the fact that it was difficult, it was extremely well-organised. [The highlight was] the food, the guesthouses the sights the activities pre and post ski." Marie-Claire, February 2017

"The food was delicious, the hosts very welcoming and the scenery and ski paths each day were very scenic. The routes were not too technically challenging and the guides were very helpful and patient in assisting those of us who needed a little bit of additional guidance in navigating the occasional tricky bit of downhill through the forest. Even though I was the only person with English as a first language speaker in my group (the others were all German), I felt fully included in all the explanations about all the activities, including the day's program and the highlights along the route as well as the meals and accommodation arrangements. I particularly enjoyed our basic Finnish language instruction from Minna and the general cameraderie, as well as the opportunity to feed the reindeer. The dip in the ice-hole turned into quite an exhilarating activity that wasn't quite as scary as I thought it might have been beforehand! I would certainly recommend the skiing experience to future clients of Nature Travels." Patrick, February 2016

"On the WiFi at Kuopi airport so thought I'd send some hot off the press feedback! We had a great trip to Finland in all. Highlights - The food, all very local, the different cooks explained ingredients or processes or where they picked the raw ingredients. At times I felt we were getting the best produce from their larders and felt guilty that their families weren't getting it but that just showed their hospitality. The skiing - snow wasn't quite as hoped but we still were able to do four trails directly from the door and two days travelled to access public tracks. It gave us a nice variety underfoot as some of the local trails were quite tough and uneven in a satisfyingly challenging way! I really liked that the guide explained the route and then let us ski at our own speed, so the super speedy at the front weren't constrained by the less technically proficient middle or less fit back. So many other tour operators don't have the ability to trust that clients can read a map!!! We were able to ski as fast and if we wanted further than the set route each day. The personal touch - from carrying candles to light our way across the frozen lake, Finnish lessons and songs to getting a personal and humorous diploma this morning, Minna was a very thoughtful hostess." Avril, February 2016

"We really enjoyed our holiday in Finland." David, February 2016

"[The best part was] the opportunity to stay with local people and enjoy local food, rather than being in large hotels with bland cuisine. We enjoyed the international composition of the group, and we liked the tour leader's leadership style." Patricia, February 2016
