If you are looking for a winter holiday with a difference this year, how about a dog sledding adventure in Sweden? Our dog sledding holidays are available on fixed dates between December and April. If you would like a private dog sledding tour, all our dogsled experiences can be booked by small groups on custom dates by arrangement - perfect for your very own holiday dog sledding with friends or family! Nature Travels offers many ways to answer the Call of the Wild on a dogsledding holiday in Sweden, with five different options to choose from.
Our 4-day Discover Dog Sledding tour is ideal for those who wish to experience the thrill and challenge of dog sledding but cannot spare the time for a longer dogsled tour, and gives you a real taste of the wilderness. Dogsled Adventure in Jämtland is our most popular dog sledding holiday - an exciting exploration of the winter mountain world staying in mountain cabins along the way, while, for those who like a mix of adventure and the little luxuries, our Premium Dog Sledding Expedition combines the thrill of life on the trail with some of the comforts of home.
If you are able to wait until a little later in the season when temperatures are warmer, Go Camping by Dogsled gives you the unique opportunity to combine a full-featured point-to-point dog sledding holiday with tented accommodation - a real wilderness experience! New for winter 2008/2009 we have also added a new flexible dogsled tour, Dog Sledding and Winter Bushcraft, bookable on custom dates by arrangement between December and March for groups of minimum 4 persons. This tour combines the challenge and adventure of winter dog sledding with accommodation in teepees and mountain cabins and instruction in winter bushcraft skills.
Dog sledding is a wonderful sport, and Sweden is a wonderful country for a husky holiday, with vast areas of mountain wilderness providing ideal terrain for dogsled tours. Dog sledding in Sweden offers a great combination of outdoor adventure, nature experience and personal challenge - and a marvellous way to experience the beauty and tranquility of the winter mountain world. Our dogsled tours in Sweden take place in the majestic mountain region of Jämtland, and many of the dog sledding trails run in an area with restricted access for snowmobiles, ensuring there is nothing to disturb the silence but the excited barking of your husky team straining to be off!
Nature Travels dog sledding holidays in Sweden are suitable for anyone in generally good physical condition. Life on the trail can be demanding, but above all you will need a willingness to work with the huskies in your dogsled team, caring for them and earning their friendship during your tour. On all our expedition dog sledding holidays each participant drives their own dogsled with 4-5 Alaskan Husky sled dogs. You will be given full training and guidance in handling the dogsled during the tour from your local guide. Some strength and fitness is required when braking the sled or when it is necessary to step off the sled to run behind for short distances when travelling uphill, and for this reason there is a minimum age limit of 13, but you will be surprised how quickly you begin to develop the skills needed for dog sledding and you should be very proud of your progress as a musher by the end of your dog sledding holiday!
